Who we are
iameko is based in Borneo. The British founder, Courtney, can be found scampering about the jungle and beaches with her young family.
The hot, humid equator climate of Borneo nurtures an impressive diversity of habitats, flora and fauna. The ancient rainforests, mangrove swamps, mountains and beaches are home to an abundance of animals, birds, amphibians and fish - including the iconic Orangutang and adorable Pygmy Elephants.
Family adventures in the jungle are spent hunting for spiders, scorpions or Lantern Bugs. At dusk, the rainforests come alive with insects and frogs, and unlike in the woodlands of Britain, the children must learn to watch out for snakes and other threats. They are fascinated by carnivorous plants, and love to learn about how and why they attract insects to survive.
As a family they understand that it is creative play that strengthens the physical and mental development that become skills for survival. Children grow in strength and competence, gaining confidence by making mistakes. They are dedicated to nurturing the adventurous spirit that leads to creative play as an antidote to the technological age. Every day is a new adventure; they want to give children the space - and the encouragement - to fearlessly explore their world.
Courtney and her family also feel strongly about ethical manufacture and responsible environmental impact. They take great care to live in a way that promotes and encourages sustainable living, and that extends to the iameko product range. To use only organic cotton, azo free dyes, wooden fastenings and cardboard packaging were all carefully considered decisions. They also took care to protect the health, safety and human rights of the Indian workforce who pour love and care into each print and stitch. It is only by taking such bold courageous steps that we can create a fairer, cleaner world for our children to grow in.
