Ethically made in India
Our organic cotton is grown, picked by hand and spun in India. It is then hand-printed, cut, stitched and packed by Project Thrive, a revolutionary initiative promoting human rights through practical action.
Based among the slums of industrial New Delhi in the north of India, the Project Thrive factory employs vulnerable women and seeks to change lives through empowerment. Women in this area are often married very young and forbidden a life of work or study outside the home.
When women have economic power, they have a say over their own lives and respect at home. This allows them to use their voice and make decisions for the benefit of themselves and their children. Educating and employing women is generally acknowledged to have the greatest impact on the human rights of a community for these reasons.
Did you know?
The Pangolin, otherwise known as the scaly anteater, is the only mammal in the world to be covered from head to toe in keratin scales (the same as human finger nails).
These tenacious and courageous women stand up to family prohibition, social censure and sometimes great personal peril to participate in Project Thrive 60 day industrial training programmes. They are given skills and training in sewing, cutting, quality control and packing, enabling them to participate in India’s thriving textile manufacture industry. The fabric is hand-printed by vulnerable artisan communities, helping to preserve ecologically sound craft and community practices.
Industry is booming, but conditions for workers are generally dismal. The Project Thrive factory employs vulnerable women in stable jobs with fair wages - they are paid by the day, not by the item. Employment benefits include flexible working for household and childcare responsibilities, as well as health and education opportunities for them and their children, and an essential safe commute to and from the factory. Simple things like sufficient ventilation and adequate toilet facilities cannot be assumed in Indian textile factories, but Project Thrive runs a safe clean factory, with absolutely no child labour.
So when you tuck your little explorer in at night, you can be sure that the organic, chemical-free bedding has been put together by some of the most incredible women in the world. Every snip and stitch has been made with care, power and faith in our shared future.
